Weve been having some conversations here at Talking Cents headquarters about ways to save money around the holidays.  The topic turned to gift-giving, so we talked about Yankee Swaps and Secret Santa.  Ive written about Yankee Swaps before, but a few of my colleagues are still unclear on exactly how these gift-giving methods are done.  Lets go over it one more time

Keep in mind, that rules may vary slightly from household to household, and small differences can exist.  Ill do my best to stick to somewhat standard rules.

YANKEE SWAP

  1. Gather up a group of friends and/or family and find out if they want to do a Yankee Swap.
  2. Determine the price limit/range for each person to spend.  This ensures that everyone spends and receives the same value.
  3. Each person will buy 1 gift, wrap it, and bring it to the party (do not tell anyone what the gift is, or label it in any way).
  4. Once you are all gathered, place all the gifts in one area where everyone can see them (in a pile, under a tree, whatever).
  5. Put numbers in a hat for the number of people that are participating (ex: 10 people = Numbers 1-10).
  6. Everyone takes turns drawing a number until everybody has one.  This determines the order of gift selection.
  7. #1 picks a wrapped gift from the pile and opens it.
  8. #2 has the option to A) take the opened gift from #1  or B) Pick a gift from the pile for themselves.
  9. If #2 takes the gift from #1, then #1 picks again.
  10. #3 has the option to A) take either of the previously opened gifts or B) Pick a new gift from the pile.
  11. Whoever gets a gift taken from them must pick a new one, but does not have the option to swap.
  12. This carries on down the line.  Everyone has the option to take any gift that has already been opened, or take a chance on a new gift.
  13. Heres the kicker Once all the gifts are opened, #1 has the option to swap with anyone else.  Essentially getting to choose any gift he/she wants.

Here are a few extra rules on Yankee Swap etiquette:

  1. Once you open a gift, you have to keep it where everyone can see it.  No trying to hide that sweet snow cone maker.
  2. Once you touch a gift from the pile, thats the one you get.  No shaking and weighing the gifts youre not picking out a cantaloupe.
  3. If you take too long to pick a gift, the group can elect to count down your time limit (which is up to the mob).  If time runs out, you get the gift closest to you and someone will probably throw it at you.

SECRET SANTA

  1. Gather up your friends and/or family who want to participate, and set a price range/limit for spending on a gift.
  2. Everyone writes their name on a piece of paper and puts in a hat.
  3. Everyone takes turns drawing from the hat.  If you draw your own name, put it back in a draw again (you could buy a gift for yourself, but wheres the suspense?)
  4. Whos ever name you draw, thats who you have to buy a gift for.  You are their Secret Santa.
  5. The group can decide whether or not everyone keeps their recipient a secret. (this mak

Unrest in European financial markets cut the net results of Russian banks in 3Q 2011. However, domestic players point to better market conditions in Russia, as both loans and deposits go up, providing for growth in the bottom line during 9M 2011.

Among Russian banks reporting this week were a country’s largest Sberbank, Nomos Bank and Bank St. Petersburg. All of them posted a year on year increase in net profits, saying revenues from their core operations were the main drivers.

Reporting on Friday, Bank St. Petersburg, which is the second tier of Russian banks, said it boosted net profit 145% year on year in January – September 2011 to 5.6 billion roubles, while the 3Q bottom line went down 2.6% year on year to to 1.1 billion roubles, which is in fact a bigger drop in quarter on quarter terms, down 52.5% from the 2Q 2011 figure.

Maybe this year has left you wanting more….

I sense that God is calling each and every one of us deeper…

Much Deeper….

As for Me…

I am tired of not being all that God made me to be….

He has left me know….

In no uncertain terms…

He wants me to decrease….

So that He might increase…

He is telling me….

Already there are 20 of us who are reading the Bible all the way through….

I invite you to join us….if you would like to just let me know and I will add you to our journey…

My bride have been going out on the Navajo Indian Reservation for five years now….

And we have committed to five more….

I invite you that 2012 may be the year…

That You Serve Him MORE….

For it is not where you serve that is most important….

It is most important that you SERVE Him…

If I can help you in any way along the way…

As we all seek to grow closer to Him…

We are here waiting and willing….

In the Matchless Name of Jesus Christ,

Porsche Drives into China

China is set to overtake the United States as the largest market for Porsche AG, the German luxury car brand in Y 2014, said a Company executive.

“China is our 2nd-biggest market, with more than 50% of sales coming from Cayenne, our SUV model.

We expect it to beat the US to be our # 1 market in Y 2014″ said Helmut Broeker, CEO of Porsche (China) Motors Ltd.

He said the Company has “not decided” yet to locally produce the Cajun model, which is expected to be very popular in China because “local production of the vehicle would need at least 25,000 to 50,000 units in annual sales”.

When it comes to payday loans, it seems that a great many customers who would be able to significantly benefit from a payday loan do not end up taking advantage of this unique short term credit solution; this is more often than not down to the fact they those same customers simply do not understand the application process of applying for a payday loan like anything that is not fully understood, this can cause fear and apprehension, meaning that a great many customers are actually losing out on a potentially beneficial option for them.
